Earlier today, Amazon surprised teens and staff from Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix with a $10,000 donation to support STEM education. Following the donation, the group had the opportunity to see technology come to life during a behind-the-scenes tour of the 1.2 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Phoenix.
“We are inspired by the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix to empower young people to reach their full potential and want to make sure youth in our community continue to get hands-on educational experiences that encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills,” said Matthew High, General Manager, Amazon Fulfillment.
The donation will support STEM education, which is integrated into the summer and after-school programs at all Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Metro Phoenix.
“Global economic studies tell us that many of the careers of tomorrow don’t even exist today. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix is working to help youth succeed the workplace of the future by encouraging them develop technical skills, but more importantly we are working to build their soft skills. Boys & Girls Clubs offers proven programs to develop confidence, creativity, and trust,” said Marcia Mintz, CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix. “Thanks to partners like Amazon, we are also able to offer leading edge STEAM programs where they can interact with technology and strengthen their creative thinking skills. Their investment in today’s youth will help BGCMP build a strong, ready workforce for the tomorrow.”
