Buddhist Churches of America Supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix’s Efforts to Promote Literacy with it’s Members

Earlier this month, Phoenix was fortunate to host the 2019 National Conference of the Buddhist Churches of America. As a demonstration of how diverse communities are interconnected in making society a better place for all, teenagers from the Junior Young Buddhist Association (JYBA) –  representing temples across the U.S. – decided to conduct a book drive to benefit the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix Honors 11 Teens at Annual Gala

Iyana, a Senior at Metro Arts Institute, has been a Club member since she was 9 years-old. She credits the Club with providing her a safe and caring environment when she needed it most.  Iyana served as her school’s Student Body President last year and coaches volleyball and soccer at the I.G. Homes branch.

BGCMP Announced its Sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program

Today, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix announced its sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program administered by the Arizona Department of Education, Community Nutrition Programs. Meals will be made available to enrolled participants at no separate charge without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.

The Future of Technology

The future of technology was introduced at Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix as the brand new Best Buy Teen Tech Center opened on August 22nd. This tech center is the first club-based Teen Tech Center in Arizona.

During its “Fueling our Future” community breakfast, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix (BGCMP) unveiled the new Renee LaBelle Parsons Girls Leadership Award and scholarship. Spearheaded by businesswoman and philanthropist, Renee Parsons, the award honors girls who have exhibited three key leadership qualities – collaboration, assertiveness and empathy – and provides the recipient with a new laptop and four years of scholarship funding up to $20,000 a year.
