PHOENIX, Ariz. (August 5, 2023) – Hundreds of students from Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley (BGCAZ) will gather at three Valley Kohl’s locations for a morning they won’t forget. BGCAZ board members and other community volunteers will be paired with these Club kids, selected based on financial need and outstanding behavior, for a morning of back-to-school shopping. Players from the Arizona Coyotes along with mascot Howler will join shoppers at the Gilbert location.
“Back-to-school supplies, clothing, and shoes can quickly become expensive for families. This shopping trip at Kohl’s ensures that our youth start the school year with new apparel they feel confident in, and eases the back-to-school cost for our families,” said Marcia Mintz, BGCAZ CEO. “Our generous community volunteers get to know Club kids throughout the morning and can see the impact of their work firsthand.”
Having appropriate supplies and clothing is important to a child’s academic success, and new gear for class will help build confidence and pride in these deserving young people. The three participating Kohl’s locations will open early for the youth and volunteers. The teams will have exclusive access to the stores for one hour that morning and will enjoy special discounts on clothing and school supplies. Worth $250 for each Club member, the shopping spree allows kids to pick out essentials like school uniforms, shoes, and backpacks. Papa John’s will provide pizza for shoppers and volunteers at the conclusion of the event, and Jeremiah’s Italian Ice will provide sweet treats for those at the Gilbert location.
