Valley Student Receives $100K Scholarship from Beyoncé and Jay-Z at Phoenix Concert Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix member Mikayla Lowry received the surprise of a lifetime when she received a $100,000 college scholarship from Beyoncé and Jay-Z during their Phoenix on the Run II Tour concert last night in Phoenix. The scholarship, awarded by the BeyGOOD Initiative and The Shawn Carter Foundation, is part of an initiative with Boys & Girls Clubs of America where the stars are awarding $100,000 to a Boys & Girls Club member with financial need at each of the cities they visit on tour. Lowry, a senior at Trevor Browne High School, has exceptional grades and is currently dual-enrolled at Estrella Mountain Community College and will graduate this year with her completed Associates degree. She will be the first person in her family to attend college and hopes to pursue a degree in Marine Biology or Forensics at GCU or Northern Arizona University. |
