The future of technology was introduced at Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix as the brand new Best Buy Teen Tech Center opened on August 22nd. This tech center is the first club-based Teen Tech Center in Arizona.
“Underserved communities must have the same access to tech and education workforce programs to ensure our young people are entering the workforce with the skills necessary to be successful.”
In this space, teens will have chance to discover technology that’s a career. They can learn code, web programming, music production, 3D design, photo editing, video creation and more thanks to a grant from Best Buy.
More than half of the kids that attend the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix live at or below the federal poverty line. We partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix because they provide afterschool and summer programs in some of the Valley’s most deserving neighborhoods.
Without a program like this, access to technology can be limited causing an opportunity gap. Kids have access to this with their $15 annual membership, as well as the other amenities the branch offers until 8 p.m. each night. We know this program is having an impact on teen’s lives as technology careers are becoming more and more prominent.
“This is really gonna help, especially with all the STEM jobs coming out, the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, they’re gonna have it all right in front of them.”
– Rodrigo Limon, Youth of the Year 2017, Colangelo Branch
It is an encouraging look into the future of technology, to see kids begin to learn and grow alongside the equipment they have a passion for. Thank you for being a game-changer for youth in our community. Your donations make this a reality for local students. If you haven’t already, it’s never too late to join the fight.
