They will present how to benefit from the Cares Act’s Charitable Giving Provisions. The provisions include the Universal Charitable Deduction and Adjusted Gross Income Limitation.

- Individuals taking standard deductions can take up to $300 in above the line deductions for qualified charitable gifts to 501c3 nonprofits.
- Individuals who itemize can deduct up to 100% of their taxable income via qualified charitable donations in 2020 (used to cap at 60%). If you previously itemized, you are now incentivized to save every donation receipt.
- Corporations who itemize may deduct up to 25% of income (up from 10%) and food donation deductions up to 25% (up from 15%).
The temporary measure of the CARES Act provides savings in tax liability on your 2020 taxes from your qualified charitable donations this year.

Ben is a Director and Trust Specialist with the Retirement and Personal Wealth Solutions group at Merrill Lynch. In that role, he works with financial advisors at Merrill Lynch to help them offer customized, multi-generational trust and legacy planning solutions to their ultra-high-net-worth clients. He also offers philanthropic planning and fiduciary consulting. Ben conducts educational seminars for local and national organizations, including not-for-profit groups.
In 2006, Ben joined Merrill Lynch as an Internal Trust & Estate Specialist. Ben assumed his current specialist role at Merrill Lynch, in 2008, based in Phoenix where he serves the Arizona, Southern California, and Nevada markets.
